Gordon,Donna Marie (née McKay)

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Donna Marie Gordon (née McKay) announces her peaceful passing in Strathmore, Alberta on April 18, 2025, at the age of 77.

Born on July 23, 1947, to Walter and Pauline McKay, Donna grew up in Acme, Alberta. Her early years were filled with music and community, singing in the Acme United Church choir and participating in the Canadian Girls in Training (CGIT). These formative experiences laid the foundation for a life rooted in love, service, and song.

Donna met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Gordon, while in high school. Bob and Donna were married 58 years, raising three daughters together: Vicky (Mike) Smith, Cheryl (Guy) Kerr, and Jodi (Mike) Saad. She was a devoted and proud grandmother to six grandchildren – Gregor, Ethan, Reece, Avery, Mason, and Evan, who were the light of her life. From baking and decorating sugar cookies, to singing lullabies and sharing stories, Donna’s love for her family was boundless.

A gifted musician, Donna had a beautiful singing voice and was equally talented on the piano, accordion, and bass guitar. Even as her memories faded through the years, her joy of music always stayed with her. Her grandchildren have many fond memories of Grandma singing to them.

Donna had a generous and caring heart. She was known for her yearly tradition of donating warm snowsuits and accessories for the babies of teenage mothers – each one lovingly chosen with thought and tenderness.

Though dementia dimmed some parts of her life, it never took away her warmth or her spirit. Donna was always ready with a wink, a kiss and a smile. On special days, she’d surprise her loved ones with a rare, but very cherished gift of saying, “I love you”.

Donna passed away in Strathmore, AB after a long struggle with Alzheimers.  The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Sagewood in Strathmore for their compassionate care and support throughout Donna’s final years.

Donna will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held close in the hearts of those who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held at the Acme United Church, 413 Bennett Ave, Acme, AB, on Saturday May 10, 2025 at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wheatland & Area Hospice Society.
