Evenson,Delmer Alvin Clayton
May 21, 1945 – March 17, 2025
With broken hearts, we are sharing the passing of Del who left us suddenly on March 17, 2025, in Strathmore, AB.
Del leaves behind his loving wife Lori, his son Brett (Kelli) Evenson, his daughter Sara (Jodie) Holinaty, Brett and Sara’s mom Georgia, his amazing granddaughters Brooklynn, Makenna, Brynn, Tegan and Chloe, his big sister Freda (Dennis) Lawrysyn and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his Mom Elizabeth, his Dad Alvin and his little sister Arleen (Gordon) Zahariuk.
Del was born on May 21, 1945, in Bengough SK and spent his early years on the family farm. He ventured off at a young age to work in Alberta, where he eventually settled in Calgary and began his career with ATCO Gas as a Heavy Equipment Operator. In 1977, he returned to the farm but came back to ATCO in 1989, retiring in 2010. Del had an incredible work ethic and as dedicated as Del was to work, he was just as dedicated to his free time.
After retirement Del and Lori moved to Fife Lake, SK. Although loving retired life, Del had a hard time staying still so he did go back to work part-time driving gravel and grain trucks.
They stayed a few winters in California and Arizona leading him to trade in his jeans, denim shirts, cowboy hat and cowboy boots for shorts, t-shirts, a ball cap and sandals, this was not an easy transition for Del! They also were lucky enough to travel to a few states including, Tennessee, Nevada, New Mexico, South Dakota and his favourite, Texas.
Del loved a cold beer or two, country music, which would often make him break into song, and spending time with his family and his dogs, Tucker and then Charlie.
Del also enjoyed his walks by the river feeding the birds with Sara and visiting the horses where she volunteered, Dare to Dream Horse Rescue.
He was proud of rebuilding his 56 Merc with Brett and the truck has been showcased in many car shows and parades, utilized in photographs and is still driven by family.
He loved living in Fife Lake but unfortunately, health reasons brought them back to Alberta.
We will never forget his big laugh, his beautiful smile and those BLUE eyes! We will never stop missing you and we will love you forever.
Del requested no service; therefore, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for family and friends.
Because of Del’s love for animals, a donation in his memory can be made to a shelter of your choice.
“Oh, the last goodbye’s the hardest one to say.
This is where the cowboy rides away.”
