Since becoming the Minister of Aboriginal Relations, the Honorable Robin Campbell has spent considerable time in Aboriginal communities across Alberta. “In order to truly understand the needs of a community, you must be with the people and hear directly from them,” he said.
Minister Campbell had the chance to return to Siksika First Nation and was joined by Minister of Health Fred Horne and Minister of Human Services Dave Hancock for a tour of its remarkable Health and Wellness Centre on Nov. 30.
Earlier in the summer, Campbell recalls, “I toured the facility and was very impressed with the holistic approach that is being taken with health care on the Nation.”
Health Minister Horne was equally impressed during the tour and stating that “this is a good example of what primary health care should look like in Alberta.”
Ministers Hancock, Horne and Campbell witnessed a commitment by the First Nation through the programs and services they are providing to not only address their own people, but all of the surrounding community. They also talked extensively about some of the challenges and positive partnerships that they have with other.
“It is a remarkable facility that the Nation should be proud of,” said Campbell, who thanked the Elders, Chief Fred Rabbit carrier and Council, along with Health Services CEO Tyler White, physicians and staff for the ability to visit Siksika First Nation and the Health and Wellness Centre.
“As a government we look forward to continued positive dialogue as we work together to resolve issues and improve the lives of all Albertans,” he said.
