With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Armand Corbiell on January 9th, 2025, at the Strathmore Hospital.
Armand was born March 26th, 1936, at Cluny, Alberta. He spent his entire life at the farm. He raised his first bull calf at the age of twelve, which he later sold at the Calgary Bull Sale for $500, which was an exceptional amount of money at that time. This was the start of his lifelong love of Corbiell Herefords.
This humble man was known for his honesty, integrity, work ethic and always did his best to give back to his community.
He married his wife of 68 years Mary Ellen Plante on August 22nd, 1956. Together, they had five children.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a charter member of the Cluny Lions Club-president, St. Mary’s Church Council, 4H leader and hockey coach. He was an ambassador for the Hereford Industry. He served as president of the Alberta Hereford Association in 1989 and the Canadian Hereford Association in 1994. He also was a member of the All-breeds association and Canadian Cattleman’s association. He was a recipient of the Calgary Stampede Farm Family Award.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ellen (Sis), his children, Dan (Kathy), Brad (Tammy), Brenda (Kelly), Cam (Kelly), Lisa (Cory). Also survived by, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, brother-in-law Martial Rougeau (Carole), sisters-in-law, Bea Corbiell, Jo Plante and Carol Plante.
He was predeceased by his parents Armand and Amy Corbiell, sister Adele Rougeau, brother Ron Corbiell, mother and father-in-law, Amie and Jean Plante, brothers-in-law, Larry and Ed Plante, sister-in-law, Peggy Plante and numerous other family and friends.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Sacred Heart Parish in Strathmore, Alberta at 11:00 am. Reception to follow.
