Since that time adaptations have been made, and it’s one such adaptation that will be presented by the Strathmore High School (SHS) Dance students. Peter Pan- Glowing in Dark is coming to the SHS Theatre this Sunday, Dec. 16.
“Because it’s a dance show we decided to not use the dialogue for the original script and just take snippets from the book. So I would take the snippets from the book and paraphrase them and also write little narrational bits of my own so that the flow between the dances would go better,” said Lilli Furfaro, playwright and narrator.
“We’ve got lots of neon outfits and black lights that we’re using. It makes everything pop,” said Zac Klassen-Rau who was cast as Hook.
“It seemed like a good choice I guess, it had all the creative aspects that the people in our class have. Our roles were kind of brought out with our personalities too.”
The role of Hook was one Klassen-Rau had been hoping to get when the winter production was first announced.
“How he’s developed his character is really strong and there’s also a bit of weakness s far as the crocodile goes, he’s completely terrified by that,” said Klassen-Rau about how the character intrigued him.
There is a scene where Tinkerbell’s light starts to fade and it’s a really emotional dance and song in general and he said everyone’s eyes start to well up at one point, making it his favourite scene and the one that stands out the most.
“I like the group of people that I’m working with it’s fun and I like that it’s not like a drama show it’s a dance show and that we’ve changed the story of Peter Pan so that it’s glow in the dark,” said Peter Pan, aka James MacMaster.
The show runs Dec. 16 to 19 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.
