Vold’s final project hits the stage

Rosebud School of the Arts upcoming graduate Judite Vold (24) is excited to be showcasing her final project, Brown Eyed Shadow.
Vold wrote the play and will also be starring in it as Shadow.
“It’s a three-person play, its one act and it’s about 45 minutes,” explained Vold of her production. “It’s about two spies (Shadow and Sunshine) who were once friends but are now enemies that have to work together again.”
Vold describes the play as a comedy that is guaranteed to make you laugh with some darker humour as well.
“It’s not meant to be taken seriously,” she said, keeping in mind that it is intended for a more mature audience. “It’s the most ridiculous of shows; it is not serious at all.”
Prior to this comedy, Vold would share some heavier stories.
“Last year I shared one of the more heavier stories and it was my story – so I didn’t want to do that again here,” said Vold. “I wanted to take a shift to a comedic aspect of it.
“The inspiration I had for this play was the people around me. I want to have fun with it and share part of me.”
She said writing your own play for your final assignment is harder to do “but it’s more rewarding.”
The other actors in her play are also Rosebud School of the Arts students, Kenzie Baker and Steve Morton. Baker is playing the role of the second spy, Sunshine.
Vold said that Baker attended the school for a short time and then transferred to Crandall University in New Brunswick and returned to Rosebud to perform in the critically acclaimed Badlands Passion Play that happens each year in the summer.
Vold moved to Canada when she was eight from Haiti when she was adopted by her parents.
“I had a lot of adjusting to do,” said Vold of her move to Canada.
It had its challenges, but she managed to settle in well. She grew up in the Ponoka area. Her long-term plan is to move to London, England where she hopes to continue her education with her acting ambitions.
Vold’s play is on July 28-29 with matinees both days at 2 p.m. and evening shows at 7 p.m. at the Mercantile. Vold is charging a small admission of $15 per ticket and they can be purchased by emailing her (juditevold08@gmail.com).
