Lausen, Leonard Hans
Lausen, Leonard Hans
November 19, 1932 – May 6, 2024
Leonard Hans Lausen (Len), of Strathmore, Alberta, passed away on May 7, 2024.
Len was a dedicated farmer for 63 years, with a passion for the land that extended into his 90th year when he put in his last crop. His commitment to farming was matched only by his love and dedication for his wife Josephine (Jo), of 68 years. Together, they formed a strong partnership both on the farm and in life.
Len and Jo enjoyed their time with the International Agriculture Exchange Association, hosting trainees from various countries. They also spent many years with the Alberta Rural Crime Watch Association in Wheatland County, where they formed lasting friendships. Len’s love for sports was evident in his younger years when he played baseball with his cousins and brothers and excelled as a hockey player. His passion for hockey led him to coach Strathmore minor hockey for 20 years.
In addition to his beloved wife, Len is survived by his son, Lorne (Deb), grandsons Chad (Melanie) and Curtis (Natasha), great-grandchildren Cade, Josh, Amy, Luke, and Isabel, as well as his brothers Robert (Gwen) and Maynard (Emilie). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Len was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Eldora Lausen.
A private family service will be held at a later date to honor Len’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wheatland & Area Hospice Society.
Wheatland Funeral Home in Strathmore, Alberta, is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
Len will be remembered for his hard work, dedication to his family, and his love for farming.
The family would like to thank the Physicians and staff at the Strathmore Hospital for the care that was given for Len over the past month. We would like to send appreciation to the Health Care Aides and the Paladin staff, who took the time out to make Len’s day extra special with your conversations about his love for farming and hockey. Our sincerest gratitude!
