It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Antonio “Tony” Del Guercio in Calgary, Alberta on Friday, May 3, 2024, just shy of 99 years! Tony leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, cherished by his four children: Pascal (Una), Rose (John), Angel, and Frank. He will forever be remembered by his numerous grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Tony’s journey began in the picturesque mountain town of Caposele, close to the Amalfi Coast, nestled in the province of Avellino, Italy. He spent his formative years toiling the fertile soil alongside his family. In 1949 Tony married the love of his life, Giuseppina “Josephine”, who predeceased him in December 2020. Their union blessed them with four children. Together they shared many bonds and memories of unwavering love and devotion. In 1956, Tony embarked on a courageous journey to Gleichen, Alberta guided and supported by his brother Nick and began work for the Canadian Pacific Railway. The family embraced the challenges and joys of new friends, family and culture. Tony was the custodian of the Gleichen School and school bus driver for many years prior to moving the family to Calgary in 1973. His spirit and strong work ethic were as strong and vibrant as his Italian accent. A man of many passions, Tony and Josephine loved to travel, their adventures took them around the globe with multiple trips to his homeland and family. He took exceptional pride in growing lush gardens, always sharing with family, friends and neighbours. His energetic ability to perform headstands anywhere and everywhere including garage rooftops was a unique talent that brought smiles and joy to those around him.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Cambridge Manor for their devoted care and friendship. “Farewell, dear Dad.” Though you came very close in reaching your centennial milestone, your spirit remains forever vibrant in our hearts. We know you are keeping watch over us, you are once again reunited with Mom in the heavens above.

A Celebration of Tony’s life was held at Fosters Garden Chapel, 3220 4 St NW, Calgary, on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 2:00 pm, followed by a short Graveside Service at Queen’s Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you “Pay forward a friendly gesture,” in memory of Tony. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
