MALONE, Richard John
Malone,Richard John
Richard John Malone passed away peacefully on July 17, 2023 at the Strathmore District Hospital in Strathmore, Alberta. Although he was named Richard at birth, everyone called him Dick and knew him to be a hard working oil man who loved telling jokes and sharing stories with his family and friends. Dick began his life on a farm in Saskatchewan, and as a very young man started working in the oilfields in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Even though he was a prairie boy at heart, in his early 30’s and in order to make a better life for his family, he left Canada and moved to South America where he spent nine years drilling oil in Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela. When he returned to Canada with his family, he founded his own oil company called Superior Oil Well Cement where he worked until he retired. Throughout his life, Dick took great pride In his family and enjoyed telling and hearing stories of their pursuits.
Dick is predeceased by his parents, Alex and Jenny Malone; his siblings Hugh, Mary and Larry, and two of his children Marilyn and Mark.
He is remembered with love by his wife Pam; his son Bob, (Cara), his daughter Shelley, (Harold) and his grandchildren Jennalynd (Darryl), Emmalee (Chris), Rhys and Liv; his four great grandchildren Tennyson, Aiyla, Leo and Poppy; his surviving sisters Agnes and Hannah; and his many nieces and nephews. We know Dick is smiling in heaven watching over us with a twinkle in his eye and a glass of white wine in his hand. We hope he is also watching his favourite legends in hockey, golf and curling play on.
The family would like to thank the kind, compassionate nurses and doctors who cared for Dick in the final week of his life.
As per his wishes, Dick will be cremated with a private family service to be held at a later date.
