The Strathmore Archery Club will honour one of its former members this weekend with a memorial 3D shoot. Josh Reiter was an outdoorsy, athletic person and also an avid archery club member before passing away said Strathmore Archery Club President Steve Degagne.
“This will be the first time we’ll have ever done one for him, it was brought to our attention from his mom and dad about three or four months ago. They asked us if we could hold a memorial shoot for him because he did love archery a lot,” said Degagne.
“Every Monday he looked forward to coming to shoot archery. His mom and dad had told me that his best moment in archery was when he had a Robin Hood shot at the Calgary Archery Centre. The Robin Hood shot is when you split another arrow with your arrow.”
When asked what people can expect by going to the archery club, Degagne didn’t hesitate with his response of family.
“The biggest thing that the Strathmore archery club tries to put forth is family. Where a grandfather can shoot with a granddaughter, or an entire family can shoot together at each station,” said Degagne.
“It’s not a sport where you have to sit in the bleachers and watch either an adult or a child play that sport, it’s something that all ages can get involved in and that is something that the club strives to try and put out there, that all ages can play in this sport.”
From the first Monday of January until the last Monday of April lessons are offered. During the rest of the year Degagne says they try to accommodate people looking for lessons and that anyone interested should contact either himself at 403-901-3154 or Kevin Kemp at 403-901-5446.
The shoot is being held at the archery club on June 3, with registration from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the shoot beginning at 10.
