LAURSEN, Margaret

LAURSEN,Margaret

Margaret Laursen passed away on August 25, 2022 after a long life of kindness and love.

Margaret Laursen (Jensen) was born in Standard, Alberta to Kris and Marie Jensen who were both from Denmark and had come to start a new life in Canada.

Margaret grew up speaking Danish and did not learn English until she started school, yet she adapted quickly and became what we would call an honours student today.

Two components of Margaret’s early life were the farm and her church. She worked right beside her brothers and parents on the farm milking cows, fixing tractors and driving them. Her faith and her church were essential not only on Sunday mornings but during the rest of the week too.

Margaret met and married the love of her life Erik Laursen and spent 60 beautiful years together raising their family and enjoying life.

They had two sons, Rick and Cliff, and eventually two daughters-in-law, Susan and Lorrene. Margaret was a great mother, proud of her sons, and incredibly supportive of her granddaughters Laura, Heather and Jennifer. She also took great joy in her 6 great grandchildren, Brooke, John, Mason, Janine, Oliver, and Eleanor.

After Erik’s passing, Mom moved to AgeCare Sagewood where she continued to endear people with her kindness and warm smile. She made many friends with the staff, and they made sure she never wanted for anything. Mom’s friends, the Everett family, especially Manny, made sure that Mom was cared for and loved beyond what anyone could ask for.

She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Simon and Alfred and her beloved husband of 60 years Erik Laursen.  While we grieve the loss of our mother, Farmor, and great-grandmother, we also rejoice in knowing that she finally has the answer to her question, “Where did Erik go?”

She is survived by her oldest son Rick (daughter-in law Susan), their daughters Laura (Josh), Heather (Dani), and Jennifer. Great grandchildren, Brooke, John, Mason, Janine, Oliver, and Eleanor. Her younger son Cliff (daughter in law Lorrene), nephews Lawrence, Don, and Bob Jensen.

Thanks to Dr’s. Young and Abercrombie and the staff at AgeCare Sagewood who cared for Mom during her time there.
