Avonlea comes to Rosebud

A little bit of PEI will be coming to Rosebud this summer when the beloved tale of Anne Shirley and her travels hits the stage, and the streets, on May 25.
“Rosebud is stepping out to celebrate what it means to be small at a time when most every place wants to get bigger. We want families to gather at our four-way stop signs, receive our warm ‘hello’, and wander the streets with ice cream cones that foster the anticipation or memory of the song in Anne of Green Gables titled ‘Ice Cream’,” said Artistic Director Morris Ertman in a press release.
“In Rosebud, the play inside the theatre inevitably spills out into the street in some way each and every season, and this summer we’re embracing that connection.”
The story was originally written by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery in 1908, and is a well-known, well-loved classic tale of little orphan Anne Shirley and how she changed the lives of the community of Avonlea.
Anne of Green Gables, the musical, has been a highly anticipated show for Rosebud Theatre’s 2012 season, though the cast and crew have been too busy to think much about it lately.
“It’s a big show and there’s so much to do and we’re so busy doing it that we can hardly think about anything else except opening night,” said Ertman.
“It’s going really, really well. It’s such a wonderful story, such wonderful music that we’re having an absolutely great time putting it on to the stage.”
The production runs from May 25 to August 25, and tickets are available online at www.rosebudtheatre.com or by calling 1-800-267-7553.
