Summer is almost here, and with it comes the Just For Kicks soccer camp. The goal of the camp is to help teach the kids, ages six to 14, the fundamentals of the game. Brother and sister Michael and Jenni Annicchiarico, who began the camp in 2010, will be coaching the kids with a pair of high school students.
Every year for the past three years the camp has grown, which is always something an organizer of any event wants to see.
“This is the third year that we’ve done a camp, and we’ve been growing, but we’re hoping to get even more for this year,” said Jenni Annicchiarico.
“Last year we had an increase in our older group which is really good. We’ve stayed consistent in numbers for the younger kids, but the older group increased and that was really good because that seems to be the age where kids are really getting more seriously involved in soccer so it’s exciting to see that number grow.”
Each day a different skill is focused on, and there is a game day on Friday. Participants are expected to wear shin pads, soccer cleats or running shoes, sunscreen, a hat, and bring a bag lunch and bottled water. The camp for six to 10-year-olds runs July 2 – 6, and for ages 11 to 14 it’s July 9 – 13.
The registration deadline for this year’s camp is June 1, and it’s $120 per child. Payment can be dropped off at Holy Cross Collegiate. Anyone looking for more information can contact Jenni Annicchiarico at 403-901-6431 or at jmannicchiarico@redeemer.ab.ca.
