Cowling, Lois

Cowling,Lois

A friend recently said Lois was such a firecracker. “I always loved that she did what she wanted because she wanted to do it, no one could tell her otherwise.” And on December 19th she continued down that path. As the sun began to set on one of the shortest days of the year, Lois decided she had enough of this cancer bullshit and left.

Lois was born on March 28th, 1944, along with her twin sister Louise, to Leonard and Violet (Tucker) Wallace in Okotoks. There were eight children in the family including two sets of twins.

One of the greatest sorrows of her life was the death of her son Toby Cowling in 1974. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years Dwain Cowling in 2004, her fiancé Brian Jeffery in 2016, her parents Vi and Len Wallace, twin sister Louise, and brothers Vern Wallace and Doug Wallace. She is survived by her siblings Marlin (Butch) Wallace, Sharon and John Portigal, Danny and Diane Wallace and Tammy Wallace.

She will be loved and missed always by her four daughters, and their families; Lorraine and Dan Hjalte, Leah and Victoria Grey; Jamie and Jenna Hjalte, Madeleine; Alex and Pauline Hjalte; Connie and Paul Cartmill, Matthew and Sarah, Carla Cowling and Glen Genoe, Amy Peterman; Christina and Nathan Maron, Marcella and Oliver. She is also survived by Brian’s son Sean and Dee Jeffery.

Many, many thanks to all the doctors, nurses, homecare nurses and the rural palliative care team who helped to care for Lois over the past two months. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the High River Hospital who helped to care for her and all of us during those last few days.

A celebration of life will take place in the Spring of 2022. If desired memorial contributions can be made to the High River & District Health Foundation, for the Cancer Centre or Palliative Care. Arrangements are in Care of Snodgrass Funeral Home, High River.  Ph. 403-652-2222.
