Strathmore Wheatland Chamber of Commerce to host municipal candidate forum
By John Watson Local Journalism Initiative Reporte
The Strathmore Wheatland Chamber of Commerce (SWCC) will be hosting a virtual forum for municipal election candidates on Oct. 6 revolving around the topics of business and economy.
“If I were to take a guess at some of the questions, it would be how does our candidates expect to be able to promote business? What would they want to see happen in our industrial area? What are we doing well, what aren’t we doing well to help bring new business to town?” said Poirier.
The forum was originally scheduled to occur in person, though it was moved online following the reintroduction of stricter provincial health measures.
Residents are encouraged to submit questions in line with the topics and anyone is able to join the virtual forum via the Zoom link on the SWCC website.
The chamber will be open to receiving questions from the public for the candidates until Oct. 3 at 9 p.m.
The forum will be formatted like a webinar. An emcee will be present who will dictate the questions submitted by the public and candidates will have a set amount of time to answer in tow.
Thus far, Poirier added the chamber is expecting attendance from all local candidates for town council and mayor and has not received notice that any will not be able to attend.
Come the day of the forum will be hosted starting at 6 p.m. and will run until roughly 8:30 p.m.
The SWCC is encouraging the public not to be shy about submitting inquiries for the candidates ahead of time and has created a portal to do so easily through their website.
