WEGENER, Louise Ruth

WEGENER,Louise Ruth

June 26, 1932 – August 12, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Nan and Old Nan, Louise Ruth Wegener.  Louise passed away peacefully on August 12, 2021 at the age of 89 in the Strathmore Hospital.  Louise is survived by her daughters Debbie (Glen) Paget and Krista Schultz; grandchildren Kari Paget, Ryan (Jami) Paget, Kim (Jesse Wallington) Schultz and Keegan Schultz; and great grandchildren Ava and Mason Paget, Owen and Carson Boese and Hanna Wallington. Louise was predeceased by her husband Edward Laurence Wegener; son Robert Edward Wegener; and daughter Donna Marie Wegener.

Louise was born June 26, 1932, in Golden BC. She was the youngest of nine children of the Henry family and is predeceased by all her siblings. She moved to Alberta in 1952 after transferring from BC Tel to AGT in Calgary. Shortly after she met Eddie and they were married on April 3, 1954.  They made Strathmore their home and built the one and only house they ever lived in 1955. Louise said her greatest accomplishment was raising her family. She was also an essential part in successfully running the Trucking Company, Wegener Cattleliner & Grain. Her grandchildren Kari and Ryan spent many summers in Strathmore under Nan’s care and Kim and Keegan spent much of their childhoods at Nan’s house. Louise loved having children around and was happiest when she was with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is loved and admired by them all.

Louise was known for her green thumb and the beautiful flowers she grew. Her yard was always immaculate, and she spent countless hours keeping it that way. Lilacs and roses were her favorite flowers. Louise loved camping with friends and family, winter vacations in Arizona and she always looked forward to going to BC to visit all her relatives, which her and Eddie did often.

Louise’s family would like to thank the amazing staff at Sagewood for the years of care, kindness and compassion they gave her.  We would also like to thank Dr. Sader for all the years of the exceptional care he provided to mom, along with the countless visits that she so looked forward to having with him, he could always make her giggle even on the worst of her days. A big thank you to the nursing staff at Strathmore Hospital for their exceptional care during her final days.

Louise will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her loving family and many special lifelong friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Lord of all Lutheran Church in Strathmore at 2:00 p.m. with a lunch to follow. Flowers are respectfully declined however donations in her memory may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (20 Eglinton Ave W., 16th Floor, Toronto, ON, M4R 1K8 or online at Alzheimer.ca)
