Strathmore COVID-19 cases increasing
By Sean Feagan, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter
Like much of Alberta, Strathmore is being impacted by an increasing number of cases of COVID-19.
There has been a consistent increase in the number of active cases in Strathmore recently, from 50 on April 12 to 82 on April 19. Wheatland County has seen a smaller increase, from six active cases on April 12 to 13 cases on April 19. No new deaths have been reported in either jurisdiction during this period.
Active outbreaks, defined as five or more reported cases, have been reported at George Freeman School, Crowther Memorial Junior High School and Strathmore High School.
Four town departments have been impacted by COVID-19, either with positive cases or exposure to positive cases, said CAO Doug Lagore, who added several staff members in the public works department are affected which could alter the speed of some operations.
“If things are taking longer, please bear with us,” said Lagore. “It has taken a toll on staff, and we are being very cautious because we do not want it spread throughout the organization; it has the potential to take an entire department down.”
Strathmore Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is offering a senior delivery service, for seniors needing necessities to be picked up and dropped off for them at their doorstep. Any senior wanting to enroll in the program may contact FCSS at 403-934-9090.
