Year in Review – Village of Rockyford
By Darcy Burke Mayor, Rockyford
What were the highlights you accomplished this year?
We considered the pandemic when reviewing the final draft of the budget for 2020 and were able to incorporate a contingency fund within the budget that allowed us to manage any shortfalls or deficiencies. This planning allowed us to help the two groups that operate municipal buildings without straining our budgetary limitations as well as the Rockyford Library.
To date, the village has contributed $5,000 to the Rockyford Library, $17,032 to the Rockyford Ag Society and $19,983 to the Rockyford Community Centre. Council realizes the great importance of these groups in our community and will continue to monitor the finances of these organizations during these difficult times.
What challenges did you face in 2020?
The main challenge was keeping abreast of all the COVID-19 restrictions and changes to keep the residents informed. The day-to-day operations of the village didn’t change much.
How did you overcome these challenges and move forward?
Being proactive during the budget deliberations and having some foresight into the potential ramifications of the pandemic allowed us to adapt as changes were required.
What are your plans and hopes for 2021?
We have a capital project planned for 2021 that we hope to proceed with. We hope that the pandemic will have seen some positive changes so we can have the regular events that support community groups and businesses. We will continue to adapt as needed to meet any challenges.
Council wishes everyone a prosperous and healthy 2021.
