Carseland Post Office break-in

Just months after reopening, the Carseland Post Office has been targeted by thieves yet again.
The Carseland Post Office sat closed for months following an overnight break-in in late December 2019. But after the community banded together to secure funding and a new postmaster was hired, residents rejoiced when it reopened in August.
Now, just months later, it has been targeted again. While the office itself was not accessed, thieves targeted the parcel boxes located in the adjoining hallway sometime during the evening of Sept. 30.
To allow residents access parcel boxes after hours, the outside doors to the post office have remained unlocked. The thieves used this as an opportunity to pry into about 20 of the boxes, said Bev Ross, the executive assistant with the Carseland and District Community Association and Agricultural Society.
“It’s frustrating, especially when we just got things up and running again,” said Ross.
However, the overall damage was limited, she noted.
Temporarily, the doors will be locked after 5 p.m., explained the Carseland postmaster, who requested to not be identified. But operations should soon return to normal, she said.
“We get knocked down, we get back up again, like we always do – we’re not going anywhere.”
