BLOOD, Melva Lenore
BLOOD, Melva Lenore
It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Melva Lenore Blood (Porter), announce her peaceful passing on February 10, 2020. Melva is survived by her three children Heather (Glenn), Brenda (grandchildren – Chelsea and Gavin), and Ross. She was predeceased by her sister Brenda-Jean, husband Wayne, parents Henry and Myrtle Porter, as well as her mother and father-in law, Sam and Mae Blood.
Melva was born in Medicine Hat in 1937 and moved to Turner Valley in her teen years where she met her future husband Wayne. Shortly after their marriage they entered into a partnership with Wayne’s parents and opened a Service Station / Coffee shop at the top of Scott Lake Hill.
The family moved to Cochrane in 1967 where Melva quickly began several long term commitments to organizations within the community. These included the Girl Guides of Canada, All Saints Anglican Church and volunteering for numerous Non-Profit organizations.
Melva spent many years working in various branches of the Royal Bank and, until retirement, working as a Matron at the Cochrane RCMP detachment. Over the years Melva was honoured with numerous prestigious awards as well as recognition for her dedication to volunteerism, including Cochrane Citizen of the Year and the Integrity Award from the Cochrane Rotary Club.
Melva will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her loving family and many special lifelong friends. Services will be postponed until March 5, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the All Saints Anglican Church (404 – 4th Ave. N., Cochrane) to be followed by a celebration of her life at the Frank Wills Memorial Hall (405 – 1 St. E., Cochrane).
The family is eternally thankful for the compassionate and loving care she received by the staff at St. Marguerite Manor and Transparent Concierge.
Flowers respectfully declined however donations in her memory may be made to the Girl Guides of Canada – Calgary Area for the Camp Jubilee Playground project. Please mail donations to Girl Guides of Canada (11055 – 107 St. NW, Edmonton, AB T5H 2Z6) and send with a note that it is ‘In Memory of Melva Blood for the Camp Jubilee Playground’.
