Kings battle

By Mario Prusina, Times Editor

Despite only winning once in their last seven games, the Wheatland Kings are looking for a spark heading into the playoffs.
That spark may be a game they lost.
The local Junior-B team took the league’s top team, the Okotoks Bisons, to the limit, losing 5-4 in a shootout.
With the last playoff position clinched, the Kings battled a team with only two losses on the season (the season, let that sink in) and proved that anything can happen when they play their game.
In fact, the Kings led 4-3 late in the third before allowing the game tying goal with under two minutes left. Okotoks improved to 34-2-0 on the season.
The Kings will close out the regular season with a pair of home games this coming weekend before the start of the playoffs.
The locals will host Sylvan Lake on Feb. 7 (8 p.m.) and Ponoka the following day (8 p.m.) at the Strathmore Family Centre.
Even though the results won’t matter in the standings for the Kings, as they can’t be caught by Lomond for the final playoff spot and can’t catch High River for fifth, the games will serve as preparation for the playoffs.
