On Feb. 15, the Strathmore Musical Arts Society will present their third concert of the season, showcasing country music artist Michela Sheedy, with opening act Two Late to the Party.
Born and raised in Okotoks, Sheedy has brought her soulful country style to numerous venues like Country Thunder, Big Valley Jamboree, and the Coca-Cola Stage and Nashville North at the Calgary Stampede. She was named Notable Life’s Breakout Canadian Musician of the Year in 2018, winner of 96.5 CKFM Country Star Search, grand prize winner of the Global Country Star Search and has been nominated twice for the ACMA Female Artist of the Year.
Sheedy sings the national anthem at Calgary Flames home games, has been the opening act for Aaron Goodvin and Lonestar, and has been a finalist in the Calgary Stampede Talent Search, the Ponoka Stampede Talent Search, Country 105’s Rising Star Competition and Project WILD Country Artist Development Program.
Calgary folk duo Two Late to the Party just played at the Tongue on the Post Music Festival in Medicine Hat.
Norman Gavey, vice president of the Strathmore Musical Arts Society, saw them perform at the 15 Minutes of Fame Festival in Rosebud.
“It’s a great place to discover acts,” he said. “They were dynamic and fun to watch, so I wanted to bring them to Strathmore. I’ve also seen Michela Sheedy, and she and her band put on an amazing show. We’re really looking forward to the February concert.”
Society president Linda Storkson explains that it’s important to promote local talent and bring in young artists with great energy.
“We appreciate that our community supports live music and as a non-profit society, our mission is to get the best musicians possible,” said Storkson. “There’s nothing like live music, and we remove the barriers so the audience can meet the artists.”
The Michela Sheedy/Two Late to the Party show will take place at the Strathmore Legion on Saturday, Feb. 15. Tickets are $40 and include a gourmet dinner. Doors open at 6 p.m., dinner is at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. For ticket information, visit strathmorearts.com.
