If you’ve never seen The Heebee-jeebees in concert, you might want to clear your schedule for the evening of Saturday, Feb. 8. The internationally acclaimed four-man comedic a cappella quartet is returning to Strathmore for the fourth show in the Arts on 817 concert series.
“Arts on 817 presented The Heebee-jeebees two years ago during the Christmas season in our inaugural year,” said Carolyn Steeves, artistic director for Arts on 817. “I had seen them perform many times at Christmas and loved them. I’m really looking forward to this totally different show.”
Since 1993, The Heebee-jeebees have been entertaining audiences with their unique blend of comedy and music. Along with releasing nine recordings, they’ve garnered four CARA nominations and two CARA awards (the Grammys of a cappella). They’re two-time winners of the Canadian Championships of Harmony, and have won multiple championships in the United States.
Jonathan Love, Chris Herard, Cédric Blary and Ken Lima-Coelho founded The Heebee-jeebees in Calgary in 1993 and haven’t looked back. Thousands of shows later, they continue to captivate audiences. Just recently, they performed at the Ironwood in Calgary, featuring Elvis Presley songs.
“The Heebee-jeebees are incredible musicians in their own right but their chemistry and onstage banter provides the audience with a heart-warming performance of songs that are familiar and popular,” explained Steeves. “Heebee-jeebees shows are always fun and incredibly entertaining. They have the ability to involve the audience while having their show showcase their incredible talents.”
The last time The Heebee-jeebees played in Strathmore, there wasn’t an empty seat. Steeves expects the same this time around. “The Heebee-jeebees have been based in Calgary for over 25 years and bringing their shows to communities all across Alberta and Canada to great acclaim,” she said. “That is a great testament to their brand of music. Audiences love them.”
The Heebee-jeebees concert will take place on Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Strathmore United Church. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for youth and can be purchased online at smoreuc.com or by phone at 403-901-2797.
