The George Freeman Trail Bridge is in a state of disrepair and the structural integrity of the bridge has started to fail. It was recommended the bridge replacement take place at the end of the irrigation season, which is Sept. 30. Chuck Renkas, project coordinator for the town, recommended the engineering portion of the contract be awarded to CIMA Canada Inc. from Edmonton. Renkas recommended a budget of $60,000, though he did state he thinks it will be lower than that. Council approved the motion.

Stepping down
Councillor Bob Sobol has stepped down from his role with the Calgary Regional Partnership, CRP. Sobol had been a member for close to three years. His mandate was to get Strathmore more in line with what neighbouring communities were doing. Previously council approved a budget for having a feasibility study. The results of the Request For Proposal, RFP, were brought to council for approval in July and a motion was made by council to postpone the study. Since Sobol feels his role has now become redundant he requested to step down on August 3. His request was granted.

Safety code inspection services
The town issued an RFP for the Safety Codes Inspection Services in late June. Both Davis Inspection and Superior Safety Codes submitted proposals in response to the RFP. The Town had entered into a contract with Davis Inspection Services to provide Safety Codes permitting and inspection services on an interim basis after the closure of Innovative Inspection Agency. Council approved the proposal from Davis Inspections and has entered into a three-year contract with them. Councillor Pat Fule was opposed to the motion.

Cheque presentations
The Youth Club of Strathmore was presented with a cheque for $186.30, which was from funds raised from the dunk tank as a part of the centennial celebrations.
Councillor Sobol presented a cheque for $2,450 to the food bank. The money was raised during the annual cake auction on Canada Day.

Citizen of the Month
It was Mayor Steve Grajczyk’s turn to pick his choice for Citizen of the Month. Grajczyk choose Global Training Centre as his pick, stating that they are an active and integral part of the community, supporting a variety of different organizations.
