The Alberta Sheriffs Branch raised $3,300 for the Missing Children Society of Canada (MCSC) during a charity golf tournament on Aug. 17 at the Strathmore Golf Club.
In 2013, the Alberta Sheriffs Branch raised $5,000 for MCSC, and over $30,000 the previous five years. The tournament was revived this year by the branch to help raise awareness and money to support MCSC.
“It was our first year back and despite a difficult economy we managed to raise the $3,300 for the Missing Children Society of Canada,” said Richard Alford with the Alberta Sheriffs Branch.
The mission of the Missing Children Society of Canada is to help return missing children to a safe environment. According to the society, there were more than 42,000 children reported missing in Canada in 2018 and in nearly all of those cases, police reached out for help to bring those children back to safety.
“This golf tournament is something we want to build on for the future, involving businesses and schools, and educating people on the MCSC,” said Alford. “This year’s tournament raised awareness in the community, and we’ll be back bigger and better next year.”
This year’s tournament sponsors and prize donators included Mark Felzmann, Country Hills Co-operators (hole In one); WestJet; Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise; Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel; Southland Transport; Dartnell Lutz (Barristers & Solicitors); Callista Weiss, Eventful Elements, E3 Events; Fairmont Palliser Calgary; Sunset Ranch Golf Club, B.C.; Comfort Inn, Salmon Arm B.C.; Strathmore Golf Club; Brian Blassen and Matt Link, Strathmore Golf Club Pro Shop; Tim Hortons, 614 6 Ave SW, Calgary; Lorne Holdaway (Big Country Drilling, Strathmore); Rodney’s Oyster House, Calgary; Vintage Chophouse, Calgary; Bow Valley Ranche Restaurant; Spolumbo’s Fine Food & Deli; Calgary Zoo; Edo Japan; Harry Rosen; The Keg.
The 2020 golf tournament will be held Aug. 15 at the Strathmore Golf Club.
