Local baseball player Kaden Zarowny played in six of the eight games the Okotoks Dawgs 18U Black team won, as they went undefeated to win the Perfect Game 18U BCS National Championship in Fort Myers, Florida earlier this month.
“Perfect Game is an amateur baseball organization that holds tournaments all over the States to showcase players to help get them drafted or get scholarships from schools,” said Zarowny.
In his second year with the Dawgs U18 Black, Zarowny caught one game, played left field and centre field in the other ones and was the designated hitter in another.
“It was an amazing experience, one of the best I’ve had in baseball,” he said, describing the opportunity to compete against teams from the Southeastern United States and Puerto Rico as well as dealing with the heat and humidity.
Zarowny is going into Grade 12 this fall at Strathmore High School. He drives to Okotoks six days a week during the season to the Okotoks Dawgs Academy.
He’s hoping all this hard work will result in being drafted or offered a college scholarship to play baseball, but he’s enjoying every minute of it.
“It’s all worth it. It’s amazing and I love it,” he said.
The Dawgs U18 Black’s last tournament of the summer season began July 17 in Indianapolis, IN, after which Zarowny will have August off before training begins again.
