The Strathmore Fire Department and Wheatland County’s Wheatland West station banded together in tackling a structure fire at the Cattleland Feedyards on Saturday.
The departments were dispatched at 8:12 a.m. on Nov. 14 and arrived at the location on Highway 564 to find one of the barns fully engulfed by fire.
After the fire crews protected all exposures and isolated the utilities, they engaged in defensive operations and prevented the fire from spreading to other buildings.
There was no loss of life.
“It was a really great effort between both the Town of Strathmore Fire Department and Wheatland West, we combined forces and were able to achieve knock down really fast. The guys did a great job,” said Judy Unsworth, manager of emergency and fire services for Wheatland County.
“They were in defensive attach because there was nothing at risk, no people or animals at risk. There was obviously property loss but no loss to any life.”
According to the report, the barn contained tack – equipment or accessories equipped on horses such as saddles, stirrups, and reins.
Some employees have taken to social media organizing donations in the form of spurs, boots and saddles. Donations can be dropped off with Jeremy at Ink Addicts in Strathmore.
The cause of the fire has not been determined. The investigation is ongoing.
