Nearly four years after local resident Brenda Walker was found dead in her Strathmore four-plex, a three-week-long trial of her ex-boyfriend Glenn Randall, who’s facing murder charges, has come before the Calgary Court of Queen’s Bench on Oct. 22.
Randall was charged with 1st degree murder after 49-year-old Walker made a 911 call to the RCMP and was shortly thereafter found dead on Jan. 6, 2015.
During the first few days of the trial, details of her death, the couples last encounters and testimony from witnesses were heard.
Trinity Rossignol recalled meeting Walker at the King Eddy Pub in Strathmore on New Years Day 2015, and stated he and Walker were not affectionate or romantically involved. The jury also hear that few days later Walker received text messages from Randall and called 911 about a man being at her door with a gun the next day.
Walker’s neighbour at the time, Graydon Pease, also testified about hearing the gunshots and seeing someone flee the property from his window.
Randall’s two sisters also testified in court about the phone call he made to them shortly after the incident.
Randall was taken into custody without incident. Four loaded firearms were also found in his vehicle.
Defence lawyer Michael Bates told the Strathmore Times due to the nature of the trail being in front of a jury, he is unable to issue a comment until after a verdict has been delivered.
Walker and Randall had dated for nine months until the relationship ended at the end of 2014.
Before her death the avid blogger had posted about launching her life coaching business, turning her life around, and had boasted about her amazing relationship. Although Walker wrote in her blog that ending her relationship was a “huge relief” – Randall’s contact to his ex-girlfriend had put a strain on their relationship – she wrote she was saddened by the loss of her best friend and lover and “the future of us together that I had imagined died that moment.”
The trial is scheduled to last three weeks.
