Spartans entering do-or-die game

The Strathmore High School Spartans football team will be laying their hearts on the field this coming weekend at a provincial play-in game to try to win their spot at the provincial quarter-finals in early November.
Despite losing their first league playoff game this past weekend and losing for the second week in a row to Holy Trinity Academy, Spartans Head Coach Travis Gorski is optimistic that if his team can rally and work at their game play by play, they have a good shot at moving on to the next round.
“The team mindset is come to practice and make sure we are improving every day and understanding the game of football,” said Gorski. “It is sometimes humbling to get beaten by a team in a fashion that you are not really accustomed to. We won a couple games this year by pretty big digits so it’s interesting to be on the other side of that.”
The Spartans will play on Oct. 26 at 4:30 p.m. on neutral ground in Okotoks against Rundle College at a provincial play-in game to see who gets to be the zone qualifier for the provincial quarter-finals in Brooks on Nov. 10. It is a do-or-die game where the winner moves on and the other is left without a play.
“Our mindset coming in is how do we improve ourselves, how do we get better as a team and how do we show more desire than the other team to win the game,” said Gorski. “The fact is, in provincials you may not always be better than the other team, but on any given day in football, the team that shows that they want it always has a chance.”
