Braves continue winning ways

By Brady Grove, Times Reporter

After dropping the first game of the regular season, the peewee AA Wheatland Braves have begun to pick up steam with three straight victories after their dismantling of the Chestermere Lakers 12-1 at the Standard Arena on Sept 30.
The Lakers struggled to get offense going while getting outshot 74-12. Braves forward Luc Trevors led the way in scoring with four goals and seven points while Nash Wassing and Conner Radke collected five points each.
The Braves will look to continue their momentum when they travel to Lethbridge to face the Hurricanes White on Oct 12.
A close battle saw the bantam AA Wheatland Warriors lose their season opener 4-2 to a different Lethbridge Hurricanes team in Standard on Sept 29.
It was all tied at two heading into the last half of the third period before the Hurricanes slipped ahead with two quick goals in two minutes and 20 seconds. Warriors forward Philip Raycroft had two points while Trey Kam also lit the lamp.
The Warriors will head north to face the Olds Grizzlys on Oct 5 before returning to home ice against the Okotoks Oilers on Oct 7.
It was a busy opening weekend for the midget AA Wheatland Chiefs who beat the Lethbridge Hurricane Hounds 4-2 on Sept 28.
Chiefs goaltender Landon Brassard grabbed his first win of the season with 31 saves on 33 shots. The Wheatland club looked to remain perfect as they headed into the second game at the Standard Arena against the Airdrie Lightning on Sept 30. Forward Steve Wilks tallied the lone Chiefs goal in a 5-1 loss.
There won’t be much rest for the Chiefs as it’s another packed weekend schedule against the Northwest Calgary Athletic Association (WCAA) Stamps on Oct. 5 in Strathmore before the club heads on the road to play the Olds Grizzlys on Oct 6.
