Bulls dominate inagural Bull-A-Rama at Aggie Days

The bulls were too much to handle during the inaugural Bull-A-Rama event at Aggie Days June 24 in Carseland.
That doesn’t mean the sellout crowd wasn’t entertained.
“The bulls kicked everyone’s butts,” joked Carseland Aggie Days event coordinator Derek Alce. “The fans didn’t seem to mind though. Everyone was very much into it, cheering (and) screaming, and I’ve heard nothing but good comments.”
Out of 25 riders in the first go-round, only Wyatt Gleeson, Jack Keats and Wyatt Laughlin covered their rides.
Competing for points in the Bull Riders Canada (BRC) standings, Sundre’s Gleeson took home first and second place for his rides in the final round. Gleeson entered twice into the event and it paid off, as he nailed all four runs.
Gleeson earned 200 and 180 points towards the year-long standings and a total purse of $4,154.
The Australian Keats won $1,029 but didn’t record any points in the BRC standings. Laughlin placed fourth in the event, earning 140 points and $791.
Local cowboy Ethan Schultz was in attendance but didn’t ride at Aggie Days. On June 23, he sustained a concussion during the BRC event in Whitecourt, Alta. Schultz is currently following the rodeo concussion protocol and has to sit out two more weeks before getting examined by the pro rodeo sports medicine team.
“It sucked not to ride, especially being so close to my hometown. That doesn’t get to happen too often,” said Schultz, who was one day away from turning 23. “The crowd was awesome. They were really into it; (they) celebrated for the riders and were passionate the whole way through.”
Once he is cleared to ride again, Schultz will be back competing in the BRC, the Lakeland Rodeo Association and with his Foothills Cowboy Association card.
Despite the lopsided victory for the livestock, Bull-A-Rama might be here to stay at Aggie Days. “We sold out of beer and burgers, so you know it was a good day. We even had to turn people away, there was that much interest. This really wouldn’t have been possible if we didn’t get great support from all our volunteers and sponsors,” said Alce. “For a while now, all we have had for Sunday of Aggie Days has been a breakfast, church and our slo-pitch tournament. This was a great change and we would love to have it back next year.”
For fans that missed this occasion, Bull-A-Rama will be in Rockyford June 30, with the first ride going around 6 p.m.
