Submissions wanted for cookbook
By Miriam Ostermann, Associate Editor
Despite extensive fundraising focused on the renovations to the Strathmore Municipal Library space, the local library is now seeking public input to help support their latest initiative – a cookbook fundraiser – to raise funds for keeping their programs alive.
Residents of Strathmore and the surrounding areas are asked to submit their favourite recipes to be included in the cookbook that will be sold back to the public later this year.
The library is interested in all varieties of recipes, including entrées, desserts, breads, soups, as well as gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan dishes.
“In general most people will go to the Internet to look for a great recipe, and it’s true the Internet nowadays allows us to give a vast variety of recipes on everything you could possibly think of,” said Carmen Erison, assistant director of library services at the Strathmore Municipal Library.
“But I know how many times I’ve gone on the Internet and I’ve looked for a great recipe and it never turns out the way that that recipe is supposed to turn out.
The great thing about a cookbook fundraiser like this is you know that these are going to be tried and true recipes that people have used in their own homes. So you know that these are going to be good recipes from your fellow community members.”
The fundraiser is being spearheaded by the local library board, and is the first of its kind in the library’s recent history. However, for Erison it’s a way for people to support the library and its programs without digging into their pockets.
“Often people can’t support the library financially, and we understand that,” Erison said. “We’ve had our book donor wall which is great and it’s going to get going in the summer and that’s great for people to put out the cash. This allows you to support the library in another way that doesn’t cost you a thing.”
All recipes must be typed or handwritten clearly and legibly, include the contributor’s name and be submitted by June 30. Submissions can be e-mailed to recipes@strathmorelibrary.ca or dropped off in person at the library located in the Lambert Centre. The cookbook is expected to be released in the fall.
