The Royal Canadian Legion delivered another bull’s-eye for their 12th annual Shoot For The Troops event April 5.
Originally what started out as a breast cancer fundraiser has now blossomed into one of the marquee fund-raising events at the Legion.
“It’s always a great time at Shoot For The Troops. It’s turned into quite the event,” said Legion President Jenny Shoeman. “It’s great getting so many friends out for an afternoon of fun and to raise money for a good cause.”
This year, the Legion raised nearly $4,800 for Can Praxis, an organization that uses horses to help veterans cope with posttraumatic stress disorder.
“Can Praxis is a great group. They start by helping out with the veteran and their partner. By helping them out, it will hopefully make things easier in the family and on the kids,” said Shoeman.
A silent auction, entry fees into the tournament and several generous donations contributed to this year’s total amount raised.
Starting at 11 a.m., 23 teams kicked off the day-long tournament. After teams competed in a round robin format, teams battled in single-knockout games until a winner was decided.
This year, it was Joan and Garth Lamb’s local club that took home first place.
Shoot For The Troops has come a long way in its 12 years of existence and has raised a lot of money for a lot of great organizations, and doesn’t plan on slowing down any time soon.
