Skating Club dazzles in year-end show

The very best of the Strathmore Skating Club was put on display at their annual Fire On Ice show April 13 at the Strathmore Family Centre.
Figure skaters as young as five and all the way into their late teens performed for two hours, showing off the skills they developed in a season’s worth of competition and practices.
“The kids did a great job and we had a great turnout in the stands. It’s always a fun day for the kids and I thought it was another great show,” said Strathmore Skating Club Coach Jennifer Wickson.
More than 30 performers took to the ice, debuting a pair of programs they have been working on in front of a big audience of over 300 spectators. Individual programs displayed interpretive and free skate routines.
Joining the show was the Solstice Synchronized team from Calgary and surrounding area, showing off a program with more than eight skaters on the ice at the same time.
The latest success story from the program came two weeks ago at a STAR event in Lethbridge. Grace Little won gold in the STAR 4, Jaicey Birch snagged silver in the gold interpretive event and Genvieve Hart took home a bronze in the STAR 4 event.
“This show was a great chance for the skaters to show off everything they learned this season to families and friends,” said Wickson. “There is a lot to look forward now for next year.”
The Skating Club will officially wrap up their season with their year-end banquet and awards next week.
