Camping for a cause

Strathmore Highway Camping is hosting a weekend for charity on Aug. 7 – 8. This will be the first annual Camping for a Cause, and this year the cause is cancer.
“We’re calling it Camping For a Cause because next year it may be geared towards a different cause,” said James Korol one of the organizers.
There will be a dunk tank, pig roast, live bands and a garage sale. The garage sale will be on Saturday and starts around 9 a.m. There will also be hamburgers and hotdogs sold, and some of the organizers’ children will be making lemonade to sell.
“Our goal is, we don’t want to help the big corporations find a cure, we want to help individuals who are suffering from the disease now,” said Korol.
“It isn’t that we’re against what they’re doing. It’s just nice to put the money directly to the person that needs it,” said Marc Palardy, an organizer of the fundraiser. Two women have already been selected to be the recipients of the money raised. People aren’t required to give extra money to the fundraiser to take part, but all money from the campsite will be going to the cause.
“Anything people want to donate to the camp is going to go to the cause,” said Palardy.
Reservations aren’t needed to take part in the weekend. Korol said people will be fit in wherever possible and power will be run to them if needed.
There will be lunch on Saturday and a pig roast for dinner, and there will be a breakfast on Sunday. The plan is to give the money anonymously to the individuals in need.
