Recycled treasure

The Gleichen Communities in Bloom committee made the request to Wheatland county council in April to be able to place a restored welcome sign at the East entrance of town. Council was in favour of allowing the sign to go up.

Judy Suave found a treasure in the Gleichen town yard, and took it upon herself to restore it to its original glory. She found the former east entrance welcome sign.
“I brought it in and dried it off, and we started (restoration) about a year ago. It’s a pretty nice sign, its solid cedar, and it was built by the Gleichen town council years ago,” said Suave.

“One of the sign posts had broken and it split the sign in half and then someone must have picked it up and put it in their yard. We spotted it there and thought we should restore that, and recycle.” She then stained it, there was a frame built for it, and then it was glued back together. The sign was put up at the beginning of the month in between Crowfoot and Main Street.
