Running with the…cows

Shannon LeClair – Times Reporter

Residents of Strathmore had a little excitement come their way on June 9.  At approximately 3:45 p.m. RCMP received a call about cows on the loose in town. There were some in Kinsmen Park, on Thomas Drive, Parklane Drive, and one or two went through downtown. According to RCMP reports, there was a company working in what they thought was an empty field and left a gate open.

The cattle belonged to Cattleland feedyards.

“We were delivering them to one of our pastures and they got out through a fence,” said a Cattleland employee. RCMP estimates 10 to 12 cattle were loose.  A bull was wandering north of downtown and was finally caught just off Wheatland trail.

“Nobody was hurt, no cars hit any,” said Sgt. Kevin Reilly.

The following day there was still one cow loose, but it was rounded up fairly quickly.
