SIMON, George Jr.

Simon,George Jr.

It is with a heavy heart to announce the passing of George Simon Jr. on December 29, 2025.

After three hospital stays in December, he came home on December 23 to have Christmas with his wife. He had battled a life-ending disease since 2017 and completed five radiation treatments in 2025.

George was born in the Calgary General Hospital on March 10, 1949. He was predeceased by his parents, Helen Elizabeth and George Gregory Simon Sr.

He worked for Otis Engineering and the City of Calgary. He started at the city in 1981 as a temporary employee and soon after became full-time, retiring in 2014.  He drove equipment in the Sewer, Roads, and Water Departments. Over 31 years ago, he moved to the acreage and the life he always longed for. He raised cattle with the help of three neighbors and had many goats, dogs, cats, birds, and plush stuffed animals. His interests included four-wheel rallying, winter and summer fishing and camping, three-wheel and two-wheel motorcycling, carving and painting birds, and playing pool. He owned his first car at the age of 13 and rebuilt its engine himself.

A special thanks to the Rockyford first responders for always helping promptly; all staff at Mint Drugs in Strathmore; the Hematology, Rheumatology, and Internal Medicine teams from Calgary hospitals; PCN staff and George’s family doctor; the entire Cancer team at the Arthur Child (especially the ultrasound, IR, and Dr. Sonney); palliative care from Calgary and Strathmore; Dr. Lee; oncology; the retina specialist and the AHS diabetic nurse.

Most of all, we thank our next-door neighbours and parents who helped us over the last year with countless errands and support.

Also, our special friends we rode with. Thank you to all friends who brought food and fresh vegetables and thank you to the Wheatland Funeral Home for being kind, caring, understanding, and compassionate.

No funeral will be held at George’s request.
