WICKSON,Linda Jane

Linda Jane Wickson passed away on Friday, October 10th, 2025, at the age of 77 in Calgary, Alberta. Jane was born on March 9th, 1948. After finishing high school Jane began Nursing School at Kingston General Hospital in 1966. Driven by a desire to explore the country, Jane pursued nursing opportunities in Ontario and Alberta. After several years of working and saving money, she spent four months travelling through Europe and Africa. 

After returning from her travels, Jane enrolled in the School for Graduate Nurses at McGill University in 1974. When entering her second year, needed additional funds to support her studies. She found a bursary program that funded nursing students who agreed to work in the Arctic. Jane spent time in Iqaluit, Arctic Bay, Cape Dorset, and Hall Beach. She recalled her time in the Arctic as one with reciprocal care, the nurses cared for the community and the community cared for them. 

This experience deepened her passion for nursing and led her to enroll in the Outpost Nursing School at Dalhousie University. During her training she was posted in St. Anthony, Newfoundland, where she met the love of her life, Bob. Jane and Bob eloped in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, unintentionally on Halloween of 1978. The following August they welcomed their first child, Jennifer, followed by their son, Steven, and then twin boys, Kenny and Michael. Eventually they settled in Gleichen, Alberta to raise their family. 

Jane will be deeply missed and will be remembered with love by her daughter, Jennifer, son, Steven and daughter-in-law, Monika, son, Kenny, and son, Michael and daughter-in-law, Amber. She cherished her five lovely grandchildren: Olivia, Edie, Elena, Robby, and Maria. We will continue to share memories of grandma. She will also be remembered fondly by extended family and friends.

At Jane’s request, there will be no formal funeral. Upon Bob’s passing in 2010, she established the Robert Wickson Memorial Award at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary which provides an annual bursary for one medical student In memory of Jane, memorial donations can be made to this Award.
