It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Eleanor “Ellie” Mercer, age 73, of Cochrane, Alberta, on November 22, 2025, following complications from a stroke.

Born on October 24, 1952, in Vita, Manitoba, to Michael and Nellie, Ellie lived a life defined by strength, kindness, and unwavering love. To know her was truly a gift. Her greatest joy was her family, and she poured her heart into every moment spent with them. Ellie’s warmth, laughter, and generosity touched all who had the privilege of crossing her path.

Ellie leaves behind her devoted husband of 51 years, Doug Mercer; her three children and their spouses—Kyle and Erin Mercer, Scott and Lauren Mercer, Kelsey and Matt Mercer-Slingsby; and her four cherished grandchildren, Kaylin, Keira, Quintin, and Julianna. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters in law Mike and Gail Baziuk, Bill and Maureen Baziuk, and Dan and Linda Baryliuk. Ellie was predeceased by her brother Fred Baziuk. Her legacy of love and resilience will live on in each of them.

At this time, there will be no formal memorial service. The family kindly requests that no flowers or gifts be sent. For those wishing to honor Ellie’s memory, donations may be made in her name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Ellie will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
