My name is JL DeCosta, and I’m running to be your next Conservative Party Candidate in Bow River. 

Bow River needs strong representation. I know how Ottawa works and know what it takes to get results against a hostile establishment. For nearly five years, I’ve been serving you in Ottawa as the Director of Parliamentary Affairs and right hand for Martin Shields, the outgoing MP for Bow River. Together with Conservative MPs across Canada, I’ve advocated for Alberta’s interests and worked to hold the Liberal government responsible for their divisive, radical, and failed agenda.

I grew up in Chestermere and witnessed the Bow River riding grow into a dynamic region where energy, agriculture, and recreation unite.

But after 9 years of this Liberal government, Alberta has been demonized, pushed down, and cast aside. Justin Trudeau’s Liberals and their unelected bureaucrats have made life more expensive for Alberta families and prevented our province from prospering. Young people like me have been robbed of our futures and the possibility of buying a home. Seniors’ savings have been vaporized by inflation. 

Restrictive policies have systematically dismantled Alberta’s energy sector and diminished Alberta’s competitive advantage – all this despite Canada contributing less than 2% of global emissions.

Liberal legislation like Bill C-69, the ‘No-More-Pipelines Act,’ has effectively halted any development. Bills C-48, the anti-tanker legislation, and C-50, the so-called ‘Just Transition’ to eliminate energy jobs have knee-capped our industry and the workers who power it. 

Our agriculture sector has suffered under crushing carbon taxes, unjustified fertilizer and emissions reduction goals, globalist environmental targets, and hikes in capital gains taxes even though our farmers are the most efficient and best environmental stewards in the world.

Trudeau’s radical, eco-socialist Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault and others like him have proudly orchestrated the destruction of our industries and economy. For nearly a decade, every policy Justin Trudeau’s Liberals have enacted has made it harder for Alberta families to get by, let alone succeed and prosper. 

Alberta deserves to be treated equally in Confederation, regardless of the number of seats in Parliament.

That’s why I will fight the Liberal establishment who want to obstruct and derail our Conservative plan to restore the promise of Canada.

On the Canadian Heritage Committee, I’ve defended freedom of speech and fought against Liberal censorship Bills C-10, C-11, and C-18 that sought to dictate what you can see and say online. 

I’ve advocated for eliminating the carbon tax and freeing up barriers in agriculture and energy so the world can benefit more from Canada.

I defended firearms ownership rights against Bill C-21 and Justin Trudeau’s government gun grab that unfairly targets hunters, sport shooters, and lawful firearms owners like me.

At the Indigenous Affairs Committee, I’ve worked to help First Nations communities unleash their potential, build projects, and get big government out of the way.

I’ve drafted Common Sense legislation, crafted speeches, and prepared questions for Parliamentary committees and Question Period. I’ve spoken to thousands of Bow River residents like you – listening to your concerns, stories, and what’s important to you. Your stories are what motivates me and reminds me every day why I fight for our community, for our home, and for you.

Yes, it feels like our country is broken. But hope is on the horizon.  

Canadians will have the opportunity to elect a Common Sense Conservative Government led by Pierre Poilievre. I’m running because I know I can help turn the hurt that Trudeau caused into the hope Albertans and Canadians need.

I’m running because I will always defend Alberta’s interests in Parliament as I’ve done over the last five years, and I will never compromise my values.

I’m running because I’m the only candidate with Parliamentary experience ready to get to work on Day One under a new Conservative government led by Pierre Poilievre.

I’m running because I believe in freedom and fairness for all.

I want to see an Alberta where our agriculture and energy sectors thrive and where the Bow River riding is recognized as a hub of innovation and opportunity with proud, determined, and hard-working people. A place to move your family or put down roots and start one. A recreation hotspot minutes from the big city, yet far enough away to enjoy the quiet of the country.

Together we can achieve greatness for Alberta, and restore the promise of Canada.
