Ideas for a strong and free Bow River
By JL DeCosta Conservative Nomination Candidate for Bow River
Often people ask me, why do you want to run to be the next Conservative Candidate for Bow River? The simple answer is that I want to do my part to make my community a better place. I have a stake in the future of Bow River. I was raised here and this is where I intend to start a family of my own.
But after nine years of the Trudeau-Carney Liberal government implementing bad policy to stay in power, it has never been more difficult for Albertans – myself included. Like too many people today, I too wonder if I will ever be able to afford a home. People need a home to be able to start a family, build our communities, and ultimately give back to those that came before us because that’s what we owe them. Seniors likewise are seeing their savings being vaporized by inflation, and their pensions not even sufficient enough to cover basic necessities.
This is not the Canada we know, and this is not the Canada that will be, once we elect a common-sense Conservative government led by Pierre Poilievre.
I don’t view the privilege of elected office as a capstone to my career, or as a logical next step. Elected office is not owed to anyone – it is earned. It is earned from the exchange of ideas and the trust one builds to represent those that put their faith in the individual they vote for. I’ve dedicated my career to serving my neighbours in the Bow River riding and fighting for Alberta’s interests.
Campaigns should be about ideas, and I have released the most fulsome platform of ideas for a strong and free Bow River. If I have the privilege of becoming your next Conservative candidate, these are some of the ideas that I will focus on:
Bring home Canadian energy
• Canadian energy prosperity: The world needs energy – Canada should be providing and prospering. Canadian owned, Canadian made.
• Canadian Energy Independence: Replace dirty dictator oil with clean Canadian energy. Canadian energy needs should be met with Canadian energy.
• Axe the Carbon Tax: Scrap job-killing taxes on energy that make life and filling your tank more expensive
• Incentivize Innovation: Unleash Canadian potential by reducing red tape and regulation to get projects built. A.K.A. Drill, Baby, drill!
Freedom and Fairness for All
• Get a fair deal for Alberta: Alberta must reassert itself and get a fair deal in confederation. Advocate for senate reform for equal representation.
• Equality under the law: End preferential justice. Justice will once again be blind. Get tough on crime and keep offenders behind bars.
• Eliminate Discriminatory DEI: Dangerous and immoral policies in the name of “diversity” that give preference based on inalienable characteristics like race must end. All Canadians are equal and deserve equal opportunity to succeed.
• Eliminate divisive woke agendas: End radical social indoctrination. Take pride in Canada’s history, heritage, and achievements, not tear them down.
• Defend firearms owners rights: Firearms owners like me want common-sense firearms laws that keep illegal guns out of criminal hands, and not unfairly target law abiding Canadians.
Supporting Canadian ag
• End farm-killing mandates and Axe Carbon Tax: Canadian agriculture is already the most sustainable in the world. Policies like the carbon tax, fertilizer and emissions reductions mandates hurt Canadian Farms for no global benefit.
• Incentivize growth and competitiveness: Reduce regulatory, tax, and trade burdens that decrease Canadian global competitiveness.
• Secure domestic sugar production: Ensure Canadian production is prioritized over international imports. Establish a Canadian sugar policy to incentivize domestic growth and shield against external predatory pressures.
• Safeguard animal welfare: Implement MP Shields’ Bill C-385 to harmonize transport regulations with the USA to safeguard animals in transit and reduce costs to producers and consumers.
• Protect Ag Infrastructure: Southern Alberta’s irrigated land produces $5.4 bn to AB GDP from over 60 crop varieties. We must implement strategies to combat aquatic invasive species from destroying irrigation infrastructure.
