Glydon, Stanley R.

Glydon,Stanley R.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley R. Glydon on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the age of 95 years.
Stanley is the beloved husband of Myrtle Glydon, Calgary AB. and was predeceased by his parents Carrie and Harold Glydon, son Douglas Ross Glydon, sister Mary Joyce Forsyth (nee Glydon) and brothers John Douglas (Jack) & Wesley J.E. Glydon.
He is survived by his daughter Wendy MacMillan (nee Glydon), sons Garth (Frances) and Dale (Chris) Glydon, as well as seven grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Stanley was born into a vibrant farming community, near Windthorst, Saskatchewan, at the beginning of the great depression. His mother (Carrie Glydon (nee Black)) became ill and passed when he was very young, and Stanley was moved (with his sister Joyce) to the care of his mother’s family on the Black family farm near Oak Lake MB. Stanley and Joyce returned to the Glydon farm a few years later once his father was able to secure the services of a full-time childcare worker.
Stanley had a life constantly filled with new opportunities and our family was glad to have participated in the journey during our early years. He worked in the Co-operative Retailing system starting in Kipling SK and transferring to other positions/locations in the organization including Smeaton SK, Eston SK, Regina SK, Saskatoon SK, Winnipeg MB, Campbell River BC, Nanaimo BC. One of Stanley’s greatest accomplishments was helping to establish a network of retail Co-op stores serving settlements throughout Canada’s Arctic region.
It should also be noted, in his early years in Winnipeg, Stanley was involved in the establishment of Willow Park Housing Co-operative, one of the first and largest Co-operative housing developments in Canada. He served as volunteer President for the Willow Park Housing Co-operative Board from the date of its inception for approximately eleven (11) years.
Following his retirement, Stanley and Myrtle settled in Marysfield (Kimberly) BC, then a couple years later moved to Sardis BC before finally settling down in Strathmore AB where they lived until 2019. They moved to the Prince of Peace Retirement Residence located in NE Calgary in 2019.
Stanley was an active member of the Strathmore United Church and a Life Member of the Strathmore Lions Club. Throughout his life and outside of work, Dad’s had a passion for music, and he had amassed a large collection of albums that reflected his favorite styles.
At his request, Stanley will be interred in Winnipeg at a future date.
Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the incredible health care aids, nurses, staff and doctors working in the Prince of Peace Retirement Residence where Stanley had been a resident for the past 6 years.
Finally, we would like to thank the management and staff working at the South Calgary Funeral Centre for the kind, caring and professional support provided to our family to determine and complete the final arrangements for Stanley.
