July 13, 1946 – March 5, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sadie Genge, who left us peacefully on March 5, 2025, at the age of 78.  

Sadie was born in Bishop’s Cove, NL and spent the last 25 years in Strathmore, AB.  As a woman of quiet strength and unwavering dedication, she was private by nature but deeply devoted to her family, always putting their needs above her own. Hardworking and resilient, she faced life’s challenges with grace and determination. She had a keen interest in world affairs and thoughtful perspectives on the world around her.  

Sadie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Porter; her parents, Mary and Israel Barrett; and her brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Olive Barrett, and brother-in-law Cyril Barrett.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her son, Paul (Kim); her daughter, Sheri (Tyler); her precious grandchildren, Kieran and Sara; family friend Travis Bishop; sisters Alice Barrett, Joan (Brian) Harnett and Florence (Phil) Lynch; brothers Bert (Joy) Barrett, Kevin (Sandra) Barrett and Clyde (Shirley) Barrett; sisters-in-law Constance McLean and Pearl Dowden; brother-in-law Samuel (Agnes) Genge; and large number of nieces and nephews.

Her presence in their lives was a steady source of love and guidance, and she will be deeply missed.  

Sadie’s strength, wisdom, and quiet kindness will remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Though she is gone, her legacy lives on in the family she held so dear.  

Considering her love of animals, the family asks that you make a donation to your local animal shelter in lieu of flowers, or like Mom – feed all the animals you meet as much as they want.
