Fatal collision

A fiery crash shut down both directions of the Trans-Canada Highway on Aug. 18 as part of a collision that claimed the life of a 24-year-old truck driver.

A fatal collision at the intersection of Highway 1 and Wheatland Trail has claimed the life of a semi-truck driver on Aug. 18.

Strathmore RCMP responded to a crash at approximately 2:30 p.m. involving a semi-truck and an SUV. Following the impact, the semi caught fire. While a passenger managed to escape, the 24-year-old driver from Brampton, Ont., was trapped inside and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

RCMP extend condolences to the family and friends of the victim. The collision remains under investigation.

As a result of the investigation and then the repairs to the traffic lights, delays were felt into the next day as traffic was restricted to one lane.

It was also reported that there were two more accidents around town on Aug. 18.
