CURRIE, Stewart Edward “Ted”

CURRIE,Stewart Edward “Ted”
Ted set off on his final adventure on March 14, 2025, in Strathmore, AB, at the age of 79, just 44 days after his beloved wife, Joanne. Born on January 5, 1946, in Nelson, BC, Ted’s journey through life was one of kindness, friendship, and an unquenchable thirst for adventure.
Ted spent his teenage years in California, where he played football and developed a love for travel. He had a brief but proud stint with the Calgary Stampeders before serving in the Canadian Army at Camp Borden, Ontario. His professional life took many turns, each one shaped by his adventurous spirit and dedication to helping others. After graduating as an Emergency Medical Technician from SAIT in 1974, he spent 15 years as a paramedic and ambulance driver, bringing both care and humor to those in need. Later, he transitioned into a 30-year career as a safety officer in the oil and gas sector and for the Government of Alberta, ensuring that everyone made it home in one piece. His work took him from the icy climates of Canada’s Arctic to the vibrant cultures of Argentina, Malaysia, and China, but no matter how far he traveled, family was always at the heart of his world.
Ted leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with his children, Jodi and Kevin; siblings Sandi (Randy) and Rob; mother-in-law Ruth; in-laws Deb (Frank), Doug and Kirk (Kim); a constellation of nephews and nieces—Leah, Danielle, Chad, Dax, Derrick, Nathan, and Valerie—along with great-nephew and nieces Lennox, Cheyenne, and Breezy. He was predeceased by his sister Judi. His first wife, Donna, remained a lifelong friend, and his friendships stretched far and wide, a testament to his kind and easygoing nature.
Whether on the golf course, at the hockey rink, or behind the wheel of an RV, Ted found joy in every journey. As a young man, he drove a tour bus to California, foreshadowing the love of the open road that he and Joanne later embraced, exploring Canada and the U.S. together. He was also an active member of the Masonic Irricana Lodge and the Calgary Al Azhar Shriners, where his generosity and camaraderie left a lasting impact.
In true Ted fashion—never one to take life too seriously—he wanted his headstone to read simply: “Here lies Ted – Dead.”
As we bid farewell to Ted, let’s remember him not with sadness but with the joy he brought into our lives. Let’s honor his memory by embracing each day with the same adventurous spirit he showed us, and by spreading kindness and friendship. Ted Currie may have taken his final bow, but the echoes of his laughter will resonate forever.
