October 19, 1934 – December 9, 2024
Alfred Zimmer passed away peacefully at home at the age of 90, on the evening of December 9th with his loving wife, Terry, by his side. He is survived by Terry, son John (Angie), daughter Jennifer and grandson David.
Alf, as he was known to friends and family, was born and raised in Bowness and spent the early part of his life working on the family dairy farm prior to moving to Shepard in 1970. There, he raised his family and continued to farm, raising cattle and farming the land for over 50 years.
Alf was a devoted husband and father, and a farmer through and through, always doing what he loved. He was well known in the community and loved visiting with friends and neighbours near and far with a smile, a coffee, and a joke or two. He was a regular at the Calgary, Olds, and Strathmore Stockyards. The hum of auction markets held a special place in his heart. He could often be found swapping stories, buying and selling cattle, and making friends in the lively atmosphere he loved so much. But his passion did not end there—he loved horses and spent many an afternoon watching his horses race at the track in Calgary. Later in life, he was content to watch his horses gallop in the field at home.
Alf lived his passion and was grateful to do so, making many great and long-lasting friendships along the way. He’s gone to greener pastures, but his spirit will always be with us.
A celebration of Alf’s life will be held on December 21st at 11:00am in the Arbor Chapel at Mountain View Cemetery—1605 – 100 St. SE, Calgary. Lunch to follow.
