Spartan success

The Strathmore High School senior girls volleyball team continued their hot start to the new season.
The Lady Spartans went undefeated at the DVSS tournament in Drumheller, winning gold in a third set against Strathcona Tweedsmuir during the Sept. 20-21 tourney.
The girls faced some tough opponents, but nothing rattled them, and they ended the weekend with a record of 6-0.
Many of the underclassmen got to show off their skill and grit with two Grade 10s leading the stats with the most assists. After losing the final the previous weekend in Camrose, the girls were going to stop at nothing to take home gold.
After winning the first set of the final 25-10, they had the momentum going into the second set, but unfortunately lost the second set 25-20.
Though they had just lost the second set, the Strathmore girls did not look defeated – instead they used that loss to push through into the third set.
The Spartans worked their hardest and left it all out all on the court, leading them to win the third set 15-10 and ultimately winning the tournament.
This win meant more than they let on, especially to the Grade 12s on this team, many of whom have played on the senior team since Grade 10
With gold and silver medals in their first two tournaments, the Spartans are looking forward to seeing what the girls can accomplish in the remainder of the season.
