LAUSEN, Robert Edward

LAUSEN,Robert Edward

March 29, 1930 ~ September 1, 2024

Robert Edward Lausen of Strathmore, Alberta passed away on September 1, 2024 at the age of 94.

Robert was born the eldest of three boys to Eldora and Ed Lausen. In his youth, he enjoyed playing hockey with his brothers and cousins and finding time for a few minutes of baseball before it was time to go back to work in the field. He loved to skate, and continued to do so well into his senior years.

Robert attended SAIT in 1948 to study Farm Construction and Mechanics, then attended again a few years later taking the Carpentry Apprentice program, graduating as a Journeyman Carpenter. He built many homes in the Strathmore area, including one for his parents and two for himself and Gwen. His expertise allowed him to do everything from pouring the foundation right through to the cabinet making, and he was renowned for his skill and precision in everything he made.

Having grown up on a farm, he was most in his element farming; working the land and raising cattle. He could work long hours and was capable of fixing or building anything that was needed.

Robert and Gwen began square dancing in 1975. They joined the Wheatland Whirlers where, for many years, they enjoyed good music, good exercise, good food and the company of good people, many of whom became lifelong friends.

In addition to his wife Gwen, Robert is survived by his daughter Elaine and his grandson Christopher and also by his brother Maynard (Emilie) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Len, sister-in-law Jo and his parents Ed and Eldora Lausen.

The family would like to thank Dr. Alan Young and the staff at Sagewood for their excellent care for Robert over the years, and to express our appreciation to the doctors and nurses at Strathmore Hospital who cared for him with great compassion and kindness.

Funeral services will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home ~ Prairie View Chapel (1605 100 Street SE, Calgary) on September 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
