GREYDANUS, Jessie (Jeltje)

GREYDANUS,Jessie (Jeltje)

December 14, 1930 – June 8, 2024

Jessie passed away at Southwood Hospice in Calgary on June 8, 2024.

She was born in the Netherlands, the youngest of four.

Jessie is pre-deceased by her husband of 36 years, Cecil (Sytze) Greydanus in 1986, all her siblings, daughter-in-law Pamela Greydanus in 2011 and an infant granddaughter in 1981.

She is survived by her children, Wemmy, Johnny, Jimmy (Marla), Linda, Irene (Glen), Jane (Cory) and Kerry (Sherry), 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and extended families.

Jessie came to Canada as a young bride, with a husband and a 5-month-old. She knew no English. Over the years she learned to be a homemaker – cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She made the world’s best Speculaas cookies. She loved to play Yahtzee and Uno at family functions. Competitive and strong, with a sharp wit, she demonstrated how to live with grace.

When Cecil passed away, she moved to Strathmore where life-long friends were made. She enjoyed bowling and curling. Jessie spent many hours volunteering with the Hospital Auxiliary, raising funds for multiple causes. One of her favourite past times was to accompany ‘older’ ladies on bus trips to the casino.

Mom moved to Sagewood Age Care in 2015 where she resided until her passing. She may be gone, but our hearts are filled with her love. Rest in Peace.

As per Jessie’s wishes, no service will be held. Arrangements entrusted to Wheatland Funeral Home.
